Technology has taken hold of the sector and is transforming patient outcomes.

But – there’s one key logistical challenge that’s leaving many companies wide open to risk: access to healthcare data.

The processes that surround data access are often overly complex, manual and heavily impacted by governance – but we see the potential. We see this as an opportunity for you to create real change through digital integration and interoperability.

From huge bodies like UK Health Security Agency and  NHS organisations, to innovative healthcare start-ups, we’ve created and supported digital health innovations for years. Whether you’re an innovator in primary care or a medical device supplier, we understand the challenges you face – and we’re ready to help.

Integrate your digital health solution now

Breaking down industry jargon

With many digital health integrations under our belt, one thing is clear: there’s a lot of confusion around digital health integration – or more specifically, how to easily integrate with healthcare systems.

How do you provide a seamless journey for the patient or healthcare provider? How do you tie together diverse healthcare data sets from EHR/PAS/EPR, how can this data be accessed in a secure and compliant way?

It can be a procedural nightmare – and it’s often manual.

6B’s digital health integration teams have experience integrating with leading healthcare system providers including EMIS, SystmOne, Cegedim, Epic, Cerner, AllScripts and of course, the NHS.

Our established components, processes, and tools give your digital health integration project unparalleled efficiencies and opportunities to integrate with leading healthcare solutions at speed.

However, this kind of health integration is a fine art – from navigating the technical jargon, to building a bespoke integration service or proxy that meets your custom needs, these kinds of digital integrations can be complex and overwhelming.

That’s where we come in, with our no-nonsense approach and technical excellence.

How we can help you

Our unique digital health consultancy, development, and integration offering to means we can deliver integrations that enable quick access to healthcare data, and support you at every stage of the process. We break this down into five key areas:

Application support

Digital health integration starts with your application to join either NHS services or vendor partner programs, and this documentation can be hard to understand, with plenty of technical and clinical terminology thrown in – we offer support specifically for this process (roughly 3 to 5 days of consultancy depending on how much support you need).

Integration development

Once the application’s approved, we can develop the integration itself or supply any part of the team needed to develop it. The time this takes can differ from platform to platform – for example, in primary care, with Emis, this is roughly 4-6 weeks, but for Emis and TPP, this extends to roughly 6-10 weeks. All our work is completely bespoke to you and your organisation, so we’ll cover timeframes during our initial strategy work.

Additional software

Perhaps you have a more complex set of technical circumstances; you might need additional software and integration to create the right solution for your circumstances. Our customer IgniteData for example, needed several bespoke features including a mapping engine (which you can read more about here). With our end-to-end approach, we’ll ensure your unique needs are met.

Development consultancy

You might already have a development team ready to go who can deliver your integration – but they might not have the specific technical integration experience of our team. We can offer consultancy throughout the process to your team, removing technical roadblocks, enabling increased development velocity, preparing for witness testing and ensuring the best possible delivery.

Support and maintenance

Whether it’s the full ongoing maintenance and evolution of your solution, or simply handover options to prepare your internal teams to fully support your new integration – we give our clients plenty of options to ensure post-launch success.

Your digital health integration partners

Through utilising leading healthcare interoperability technologies and open data standards, such as HL7 FHIR and openEHR, we can support your organisation in developing better digital health integration, better models of care, as well as improving patient safety. Some of our core specialisms include:

  • NHS integrations – we can help with integrating public healthcare systems, including NHS services like NHS Login, Spine 2, MESH, IM1, eRS, PDS, and more.
  • Healthcare IT systems integrations – we can integrate your digital product with leading healthcare IT systems, including EMIS, SystmOne, Cegedim Vision, Epic, Cerner, AllScripts, Serverlec Rio, System C, common TIEs, and more.
  • Interoperability consultation – We can assess the availability, security and resilience of your information and infrastructure to ensure that you have a solid base to build your interoperability strategy.

We bring you wide-ranging experience from sector veterans and healthcare system experts, along with rigorous standards and protocol capabilities and pragmatic mindsets, to identify and solve complex healthcare interoperability and integration problems – our healthcare consulting services are backed by comprehensive technology, data and analytics capabilities through our proficiencies and platforms.

What are the benefits?

Success is subjective, which is why we start every project by defining success – what does “a great integration” mean to you? In digital health, this kind of integration typically brings three core benefits to our clients:

  • Greater efficiency – replacing lengthy, manual processes with automated systems enables healthcare providers (or patients) to be more productive and time-efficient, while you can be more cost-effective with your resource delegation
  • Lower risk – with the constant back-and-forth of manual procedures, human error is inevitable. Digitising your integration reduces this factor significantly, while boosting the digital security around sensitive, confidential patient data
  • Patient-centric services – we’re always focused on the patient; at the end of the day, it’s the patient outcome that matters most. A better, faster and easier integration with a digital health product, means better patient experiences and outcomes.

Testimonials

“6B Digital have been an outsourced development and integration partner for IgniteData for the past 3 years, working on several engineering, data, and development projects. The main project has been the development of Archer, our advanced EHR to EDC application.

“Archer has recently gained huge traction with pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, who have commented on the quality of the functionality, integrations, and user-centered user interfaces. Over the course of our time working with 6B Digital they have continued to grow in both size and professional maturity. This is a testament to their ability to listen, learn and adapt quickly – a key skill when trying to run agile engineering projects.”

Richard Yeatman, Chief Technical Officer, IgniteData

IgniteData: Shaping the future of clinical trials

For a startup to be successful, it has to be disruptive. In a field as innovative as clinical trials, this is especially true. IgniteData already had a concept in mind, but they needed a technical partner to help bring their idea to life.

They wanted to transform how clinical trials were conducted and reduce the reliance on manual tasks like data entry to eliminate human error.

From initial user research right through to the engineering of the application and integrations, 6B worked closely with IgniteData to deliver bespoke software that would meet their needs now and in the future.

What is NHS GP Connect?

In business, time is money. But in healthcare, time means something far more valuable: human life. To deliver improvements in patient care and outcomes, clinicians need real-time access to data that gives them an accurate view of a patient’s medical history.

What is NHS IM1 – Interface Mechanism?

Interoperability has been something high on the agenda of the NHS for a while now. With digital technology playing a more prominent role in patient treatment and new models of care emerging, there’s an obvious need for the better sharing of information across different systems...

Why the digital patient experience is critical to healthcare

Things have changed. In the past, healthcare was led by physicians. But with healthcare information more readily available than ever, patients are taking a more active role in their own treatment journey. In our latest blog, 6B assesses why this digital journey in healthcare is so important, and what we can do to help organisations give patients the best possible outcomes.

FHIR UK Core Hackathon: improving patient visibility on virtual wards

Some of our team recently headed down to Digital Health Rewired in London to take part in the FHIR UK Core Hackathon with INTEROPen, answering a brief to hack virtual ward use cases. Our CEO Paul, and Healthcare Growth Director Pad, joined developers Ryan and Owen to take on the challenge...
